Like with forum posting, article writing is used to generate direct traffic, but the links your get back to your site will boost it higher in the search engines.
5.Directory submission: There are hundreds of directories that let you get a free link to your site. The traffic you get from these is going to be very low, if any. It’s also fairly time consuming. However, it’s good to get your site indexed initially.
6.Social bookmarking: Social bookmarking can (potentially) give you tons of traffic. This basically involves submitting your site to major social sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, MySpace, Delicious etc.

Well, it basically comes down to on page optimization (doing things on your site to get it ranked higher, like having a relevant title tag, meta tags and so on)
1.Analyse your website and see where are scope for improvement in your website.
In analysis you have check html tags are properly used, how css and java script is used.Is site is 100% validated? Some people believs that 100% html validation is not necessary for getting higher ranking on search engin.But I am of there point of view.I believe that is the most important that your site should be 100% validated to begin seo of the site.
Then another analiyse came for keywords.Keyword selection is the most crucial steps in Seo.If you will choose wrong keyword for your site.You will rank but you will get no visitors your site and therefor no sale.
So spends a lot of time for selecting right keywords for your website.

Select the write keywords and then allocate these keywords to all of pages of the site.According to product that page is offering.

Things to remember while making title and meta tags
1.Make unique titles and meta tags for each of your page.
2.Do not repeat one keyword more than two time in title tag
3.Try to keep your targeted keywords under 65 charchers in title
4.make title meaning full
5.Make a description targetting your main keywords.It should be meaning full which describe your website.It should not too short or too long .Try to restrict it from 150 characters to 170 character.
6.Make keywords tag and use only those keywords which are in your content of the page
Now Next steps is to implement the title and metas on you website.
Make a check for broken links if found fix the same.There should be no any broken link on you site.
Next optimise your css used on page.If css and java coding is used on the page try to recall it from external files rathar using it on page.
